LA Fitness Health Club Gunman fired 52 shots – 08-05-09

BRIDGEVILLE, Pa. (Aug. 5) – A man who sprayed bullets into a fitness class filled with women, killing three and then himself, apparently kept a Web page in which he wrote about years of rejection by women and an earlier plan for violence at the gym in which he said he “chickened out.”
Neighbors described 48-year-old George Sodini as anti-social, and the Web page in his name showcased a resume setting forth his credentials as an unhappy loner. It listed his date of death — Aug. 4, 2009 — and his status of “Never married.”
“I need to remain focused and absorbed COMPLETELY. Last time I tried this, in January, I chickened out,” one page on the site said. It ended with the words “Death Lives!”

Anybody Here Over The Age Of 60 Still Work Out At A Fitness Center ?

December 20, 2009 - 12:39 pm 10 Comments

My father who just turned 71 years old today, still goes to work out at "24 Hour Fitness Center" atleast 3 times a week. He is in better shape than a lot of men out there who are young enough to be his son.

I go to the gym three times a week. One of those days is I swim.

What is the maximum score you can get on fitness test for the ‘life fitness’ stepper at the gym?

At the gym, what is the maximum score you can get when you do the 3 minute fitness test? The stepper at the gym is the ‘life fitness’ stepper.

Either call the gym on the phone or ask them when you’re there. :)

Looking for a Tennis Racquet?

December 20, 2009 - 12:39 pm 5 Comments

I am an 18 year old male looking to spend $250+ on a good tennis racquet. I need some sort of direction of where to go/what website to go/what kinds of racquets there are/measurements to look for.

I am trying to play club tennis at college and so I need to make sure this is a good racquet.

Thanks!

You don’t need $250 dollars to buy a good racquet. In fact, most racquets that the pros use today are no more than $200. A good racket to you would depend on your playing style. I suggest you visit this website to demo rackets: http://www.tennis-warehouse.com/demoprogram.html

It costs only 10 dollars to demo up to four rackets. You have up to a week before you return them in the box it came in with a prepaid shipping label.

Here are rackets that I recommend you demoing:

Baseliner with Spin: Babolat AeroPro Drive with Cortex $185.00

All-around Play: Babolat Pure Drive GT $185.00

Control Oriented Player:
Wilson K Factor K SixOne 95
Prince O3 Speedport Pro White $199.00
Babolat Pure Storm Tour $159.00
Babolat Aero Storm $185.00
Prince EXO3 Graphite Mid+ $199.00
Yonex RDiS 100 $189.99

Volleyer/Doubles Player : Prince O3 Speedport Black $199.00

Serve Game: Babolat Pure Drive Roddick Standard or Plus

Tennis Warehouse will string your racquet at a low price if you buy from them. Make sure to buy the right grip size. The wrong size may put you at risk for an arm injury. The prices listed above are from Tennis Warehouse. Every racket from Tennis Warehouse is a quality racket… you just need to find the one that feels good to you.

Looking for Naperville, IL Fitness Centers?

December 20, 2009 - 12:38 pm 3 Comments

I’m moving to Naperville, IL and have not found any fitness centers in the area. Any recommendations? Preferably one with racquetball courts and plenty of free weights. If not, I’ll have to dust off the home gym or visit one of the neighborhood recreational centers. :)
Thanks for providing the yahoo search results. That was the first place I looked. :) Unfortunately, with the exception of Powerhouse Gym, those results are mostly to hotel, health, and children centers. :)

I’m mostly looking for "personal" experiences others have had at fitness centers in Naperville.

Powerhouse tends to be predominantly men, so that one is a maybe. Thanks, Kiki

Look for Lifetime Fitness. I don’t think there’s one right in Naperville, but there’s one in I think Woodridge, right next to there. When I was a member there (well Bloomingdale and Schaumburg locations), Lifetime actually did a good job keeping up courts, and even when I was there at 3 in the morning, I always seemed to find a game. L-O-T-S of freeweights there too.
