How would I get into a university athletic team?

January 26, 2010 - 12:36 am 1 Comment

Okay. I was wondering how to get scholarships or on an athletic team when im in university/college. Specifically fencing. (BTW ive been doing this for a while i didnt just magically decide i wanted to so, yes, im pretty good). I’m only a freshmen in high school and haven’t talked much about it with my fencing coach. I just wanted advice from people who’ve gone through the process. Thanks.

I’m not aware of any colleges that have scholarship fencing teams, but you should definitely talk about it with your coach. University athletic teams generally recruit their players from among the best of the high school players, so the key is to be highly visible (I would guess that in fencing this means doing well at statewide and national meets).

How do I talk to a girl at the health club?

January 26, 2010 - 12:36 am 3 Comments

I have been going to this health club for a very long time and there has been a girl there that looks my age and is exceedingly good looking. Most likely I’m wrong about the age, I’m not the greatest judge of that but I always undershoot. But how can I talk to this girl? I usually don’t even think of such things because I am focused on working rather than women, and she is just as focused as me. What can I do?

Girls are human beings too. They are not goddesses or mystical beings. They are not better than you. They are just as ordinary or special as you are. Tell yourself this and try to believe it, because it’s true. There is no one on this earth that is more special than you are

Start by introducing yourself. Tell her your name and perhaps what you do for a living. Shake her hand. That will be your clue to tell her you’ve finished speaking and are now ready to listen.

Listen to what she says. Hear not just the words but the meaning. Repeat her name in your head several times. Think of a pneumonic device if you have to. It’s a good thing to remember her name. That will get you a lot of points in anyone’s ledger.

If she tells you what she does for a living, ask her some questions about the specifics. It’s possible she might do interesting things. If she doesn’t tell you when she introduces herself, ask. If she seems reluctant to talk about her job or career, try asking about her hobbies.

What type of tennis racquet should I get?

January 23, 2010 - 10:59 pm 11 Comments

I am 16, sophomore, and am looking to be either #1 or #2 singles this year at my school. I am going to train a lot this winter at the indoor club, but I need a new racquet. I currently use a 8 year old HEAD racquet thats all messed up.

My game is a consistent one from the baseline-very defensive forcing them to make mistakes. When I attack I am usually using serve/volley type of stuff. So I need something that is good for both of these. I am willing to pay around $150, or maybe $200 if I can get a bag with it since I dont have one =(

Any suggestions are helpful, thanks!

KFactor KSix-One 95 16×18. A great racket, good spin, control, and power. It’s a little stiff, but if you aren’t prone to tennis elbow, that won’t be a problem. One of its best features is the serve. On the serve, you get great spin and power. And now, since a new line is coming out sometime soon, it’s on sale for 149.99 when it previously was 199.99.

Does anybody know any good gyms or fitness centers?

January 23, 2010 - 10:59 pm 1 Comment

I need a gym where i can play basketball. I currently belong to the ymca, and they always have youth league practices during the time i can go. I live in Marietta Georgia, and id like to know are there any good gyms, preferably ones with two basketball courts, and that is not very expensive. Id like a gym that has both time to practice alone, and time where people show up to play pick up games.

I don’t live anywhere near there, but you might want to check out a school (most of them have basketball courts) and ask if you can play there and grab a couple of friends
