What are the best Gyms/health clubs in Miami and how much do they cost?

December 30, 2010 - 1:58 pm 1 Comment

I will be looking for a gym/health club in Miami, in or near South Beach. My main focus is lifting weights, but my girlfriend is also joining, though, so she will want some cardio equipment, possibly a pool, and a comfortable environment. Preferably something that isn’t super-crowded or filled with TOO many douchebags (obviously, some are unavoidable anywhere), and has decent equipment. Prices would be very helpful as well.

I go to world Gym (not in Miami) but they are all over the east coast, and many cities have them. you should see if miami has one. They have weights and cardio equipment. You can get a joint account so instead of paying $60/each you pay $30 and yopur girlfriend pay $30. Golds gym are everywhere too. I like world gym cuz they offer cycling class, cardio dance class, mine does capoeira, abs class, lotsa stuff. well nevermind I just looked it up, miami has no world gym the nearest one is ft lauderdale and there’s a golds gym in hollywood and miami lakes.. proably too far for u

how do i cancel my Go Health Club membership?

December 28, 2010 - 9:23 am 2 Comments

I have been a member of Go Health club now for 6 mth and on an 18mth contract. I recently became single with 3 kids and rent to pay. I informed the club of this saying that i am in financial hardship, they want me to prove it by getting a financial advisor to prove to them that i am in financial gardship WTF!!!! I am now on the pension- what more do they want ??? how the hell can i afford a financial advisor and why should i . What can i do???

Don’t go through the Gym, most Gyms use another company to handle customer accounts, most likely ABC financial. Simply ask what the process is for cancelling, without giving them reason.

Worst case scenario, no longer allow them to take the money (cancel credit card or cancel back account). You may take a hit to the credit rating, but sometimes that’s what happens in a financial hardshit.

in college, whats the difference between intramural sports, club sports, and intercolligiate sports?

December 26, 2010 - 7:39 am 1 Comment

University of Oregon has all three for golf, and I want to know the difference.

1.) Intramural sports – groups of students from the same school, playing against each other, usually organized by residence facility, like fraternity X vs. fraternity Y, dorm X vs dorm Y, etc.
2) Club sports – similar, although probably a winder range of activities compared to intramural sports. These tend to be better organized and may involve competition with other schools in leagues, but strictly informally. In this respect has more in common with inter-collegiate sports, but far less funding and administrative support.
3) Intercollegiate sports – like the name suggests, these are the "official" teams with access to sporting facilities, dedicated administrators, coaches, a major budget, etc. The NCAA is an example of an intercollegiate sports organization.

What’s the difference between the General Manager and the President of a sports club/franchise?

December 18, 2010 - 8:25 am 1 Comment

Who’s in charge of what?

It really depends on the franchise.

Rich McKay used to be the President and G.M. of the Falcons and made uni-lateral decisions and answered to no one except the owner Arthur Blank. He stepped down from his role of GM and was kept on as President as he was a quite good front office man and a key member with contracts but was an awful personnel man. With that weird little setup they have brought in a man (Dmitroff sp?) who is a superior personnel guy and keeps him out of the coaches hair as well.

Holmgren on the other hand (and Parcells) as VP’s no less, have final say in all matters through personnel, contracts…etc. They are the almighty Oz.

It’s really just terminology, like everything else in the world.

How would go about designing a program that would maximize adherence rates?

Not sure exactly what you mean. The fitness club needs to properly advertise and have a lot of good free weights, cables, machines & cardio machines to attract people. A fitness centre must have a pleasant atmosphere and have good music and be kept very clean. Having personal trainers there to assist people is also a must.

do colleges give atheltic scholarships for club sports?

December 14, 2010 - 4:27 am 2 Comments

The club sports at college, usually a high school varsity level, would a college give them out? More info: the college I’d like is a D1 school, but not very large. And the sport is tennis. I’m wondering, if I’m not good enough to play on the actual team, but better than intermurals, could I get any sort of money for being on their club team?

You can get info about such college scholarships and grants online here – education.mypressonline.com

We are a small trampoline club. We have done a sponsored 24hour bounce & got sponsored to run the fun run in the marathon. We also did a car boot sale today which got us some money too. Although we need a lot more money cause we go to a lot of international competitions. Can anyone thing of any other good ways to raise some more money? Thanks in advance.
