What types of careers involve athletic taping?

July 26, 2011 - 5:02 pm 57 Comments

I’m an athlete and dancer and have been exposed to many forms of injury control and protection.

I have fallen in love with the art of athletic taping and Kinesio taping technique and would like to know what different kinds of careers can involve this art.

I’m not interested in being a medical doctor, but if I could tape athletes for the rest of my life I think I’d be really happy.

*I’m already aware that physical/occupational therapists and chiropractors use taping techniques- but would like to know of more types of professionals.

An athletic trainer is most likely to use the tape…but it’s not the heart and soul of the career…in fact, it’s only a part of any career that uses it: massage therapists, body work specialists, etc. There really isn’t a career where the major purpose is to tape…especially kinesiotape which is yet to show any specific effects on it’s own. It’s only an adjunct to a much more important part of pain control.

Why are basketball sneakers generally heavier than other type of athletic sneakers?

July 6, 2011 - 5:30 am 65 Comments

Since basketball sneakers are generally heavier than other type of athletic sneakers, is it ok to wear lighter feeling sneakers (running, cross training, etc) to play basketball? What are the risks of doing so? Thanks!

Basketball players do a lot more jumping, stopping, and turning then players in most other sports. Also, basketball players tend to be a lot taller, with longer legs that put additional physical stress on their feet. Basketball shoes have extra support for the heel, arch, and ankle, so they weigh more.

If you wear lighter shoes with less support, you may be adding to your risk of injury. That really depends on your physical makeup.

What football position do you think is the most athletic?

May 18, 2011 - 11:31 am 10 Comments

I personally think defensive ends are the most athletic, they have to run 4.6 and under, are unnaturally strong, and bend to lower angles than figure skaters.

Cornerbacks and 2nd place is not even close!!!!

Is there a relationship between athletic achievement and not being vaccinated?

November 29, 2010 - 5:37 am 4 Comments

I am interested in a comparrison between extreemly high levels of athletic achievement and not being vaccinated. Do vaccines limit our athletic achievement in some way? Are you an Olympic athlete, or similar? Did you get vaccinated as a child?

Er, no. There is no connection.

I’m very athletic and I am vaccinated.

Edit: Hi Nate!

What degree is recommended for becoming an athletic trainer on a professional sports team?

what degree in college would help me the most if i want to become an athletic trainer on a profssional sports team? and how hard is it to get a career like this?

I noticed a lot of the college student-athletes that want to be coaches and/or trainers major in either Kineselogy, Sports Management, or Professional Recreation. Go on some college websites and look at the bios of some of the athletes and you can see what I’m talking about.

Good luck.

How would I go about playing football in college with no athletic experience or background?

November 17, 2010 - 8:46 pm 2 Comments

I would love to play football in college. I never played in high school or growing up but did play for the fun of it during spare time with the friends and family. What would my chances be of getting to play college ball? Is this even possible considering I have no athletic background? What would I have to do?

nothings impossible it would just be a lot harder for you to make the team because your battling 50 plus players to make the team just keep practicing and going to the gym

football is much harder with pads and helmet on then just throwing the football around

and most people that go out for football have had some experience playing the sport

unless your very athletic or fast strong quick can take a hit its going to be hard for u but it all depends on how much you want it

What is it like being an athletic trainer?

November 15, 2010 - 11:09 pm 2 Comments

So, I want to major in athletic training in college. I want to do this because I love sports and I want to do something in the medical field… So I was wondering what it is like to be a athletic trainer? Anything would help! Thanks!

Although I’m only a high-schooler. I enjoy training at football games. You can do simple things like wrapping a wrist or ankle, to something like carrying an injured player off the field on a spineboard.
I plan on majoring in Sports Medicine.

How do these athletic records compare to others my age?

November 12, 2010 - 3:34 am 3 Comments

I’m 14 years old, I want to know how these athletic records compare to other 14-15 year olds in other places.
100m spint – 11.64 seconds
400m – 1:01 minutes
long jump – 5.20 m
Javelin – 47.13 m
High Jump – 1.60 m

Thanks
I’m a boy……

One question, boy or girl? But anyways:

For a boy the 100 is good, but the 400 is decent. I don’t know much about long jump but your jav is average I suppose and high jump is not that good.

For a girl the 100 is still really good and the 400 as well. The jav is good and the high jump is not the best but more than average.

Over all, you are doing good :)
