How many members play both badminton and tennis?

30 – 2 = 28 who play badmitton and/or tennis

28-19 = 9 who just play badminton

17-9 = 8 who play both badminton and tennis

There are 28 members who play badminton, tennis or both. The total of 17 and 19 is 36. This means there must be 8 who play both.

2 doesn’t play either of them, so you only have to look at the 28 players.

17 + 19 = 36. So we are over 28 by 8. Therefore, 8 of them has to play both tennis and badminton.

It cannot be more than 8 because then that would change the values of 17 and/or 19.

    Answer: 8
